Kamal Salem - GDC Egypt -  Cairo, Egypt: 7000 years of civilization, just think of the amount of data this country has generated over the ages. On the shores of one of the longest rivers in the world, the river Nile, lies a small building. From the outside it seems insignificant compared to the towering banks and hotels in adjacent spaces along the east bank of the Nile, however, inside this...

Efficient Traffic Management and Public Transport...
Kochi, a city that is fighting for its place to gain the reputation of being smart. A proposed IT township project that carries the “Smart” prefix to it is still to become a reality. It’s true that lack of political will and lack of vision will continue to bog the city down from spreading its wings and flying higher, but in spite of all odds Kochi will definitely grow bigger. But...

Denver international airport's solar energy...
Obviously fossil fuels have hit their peak and it’s time to invest in alternative energy, one that is renewable and has no pollution. Denver has always been on the forefront for green technology with their green data centers to their greenhouse gas reduction strategy. Truthfully it makes me proud to live in a city that is concerned about climate change and sustainability. Denver has also had its...

Smarter Transportation Forum in DC
ajmacisaac: In 2010, there are 476 urban areas with at least 1 million people worldwide. That’s an increase of 573% from 1950 when there were 83. Over half the world’s population now lives in urban areas. Transportation congestion continues to grow, wasting time and money while creating more pollution. Most of the developed world’s transportation infrastructures were designed decades ago and...

Traffic in Ruby More (see crossing in Wikimapia) is always chaotic esp as the Unionised vehicle drivers (Auto Wallah etc.) do not follow signals. Given the political realities need to find a solution that will enable Auto to by-pass the More, drop passengers and return back.

Moscow, Russia
Moscow is a city that has been host to 80% of the regional economy for a country that is the largest by land mass.  Regional industry is built on resource consumption & redistribution, while apartments in the center of the city are centrally heated, with no choice of turning them down. The corner of Kutuzovsky Prospekt & the ‘3rd Transportation Ring’ a a glimpse into the...

Yale bus speeding on Bishop Street
My clickfix story is about a post I almost reluctantly made because I was afraid I would be tagged a nerd or geek or something. But it was about the Yale University shuttle buses, which are often regular size school buses, though they run on biodiesel, and how they would speed up my street, which has a 25 m.p.h. posted speed limit. On several occasions since moving to Bishop in 2008, I...

Imagine a world in which all citizens felt they were engaged in a dialogue with local governments, as well as with one another individually, in ways that were highly efficient and accountable to public concerns. These are the principles driving SeeClickFix.com, a “Governance 2.0” tool that allows citizens and organizations to identify and resolve non-emergency issues – no matter where in the...

It's all so easy with SeeClickFix
This is a photo of a flat tire. You can’t see it but the back tire on that side is flat, too. This car sat right around the corner from me gathering  leaves and litter for over a month before I got sick of looking at it and put it on SeeClickFix. After about a week the police had it towed away. Done. Easy. Now I could have called the police directly and probably gotten the same result, but one of...

SeeClickFix “Snow Helpers” Mobilize to Clear...
At the end of the day on Friday, I created “Snow Helper” Watch Areas on SeeClickFix, with the advice of SCF Co-Founder Ben Berkowitz, in an attempt to keep track of all the snow-related issues reported in the District. Even though the Mayor says our streets are “90 percent” cleared, there are still piles of ice and slush blocking crosswalks, bus stops and Metro stations, making our city...

The City in Mind
bookpile: The City in Mind: Notes on the Urban Condition by James Kunstler is a really terrific book, I highly recommend it. I learned a lot and have a new perspective on a few things because of it. Parts of it are extremely depressing; I’m not sure I have much hope for the future of American cities. Perhaps if enough people read this book, the trend towards city disasters in this country can be...

The City that Built Itself →
citiesprecept5: A look at the transformation of Caracas’s utopian superblock of the 1950s to its current slums.  Although not quite the city imagined by Pérez Jiménez, the mass of ranchos that now flood the area is still reminiscent of the envisioned “organic community.” Submitted by Hanaa R. Using SeeClickFix to Uncover Potholes
Spot.Us is a nonprofit organization that fundraises for independent journalists. When we approached the Oakland Tribune to see what project they might be interested in funding the Editor in Chief Martin Reynolds knew exactly what topic they wanted to cover: Potholes. Oakland has a problem with potholes and rubbled streets. The Oakland Tribune already had contracted with a freelance reporter...

The Power of One
When people ask me what SeeClickFix is, or what it does, I avoid the tech speak and instead try to get to the heart of what it has meant to my community - “SeeClickFix is an online tool that turns one citizen’s concern into a neighborhood invested in a positive action” On our quiet, residential street, one neighbor saw a very suspicious car continually parked in front of a...

SeeClickFix can help revitalize struggling local...
There is no such thing as a “smarter” city without several healthy, enterprising news organizations competing and playing their watchdog roles. At the moment, traditional news organizations all over the nation are seeing the collapse of their business models as advertisers spread their dollars over a wider range of options. These companies are crucial employers that cover a wide...

Last October Ben Berkowitz and See Click Fix made it possible for us to launch Heatwatchnyc.org - a website dedicated to help New York tenants put pressure on their often negligent landlords to provide adequate heat and hot water. Heatwatchnyc encourages tenants to first report heat and hot water violations to the city housing authority. Over the last few months, dozens of people have used...

The Power of SCF
I’ve been a fan and user of SeeClickFix since it’s very early stages. I’ve been able to get street lights fixed, potholes filled, sidewalks cleaned up, in-road pedestrian signs posted, and snow removed from slippery sidewalks all by posting to SCF. It has dramatically improved my attitude about New Haven and made me a very happy resident, now that I have the power to communicate...

See Click Fix and Tucson
I’m very proud of the partnership Tucson has forged with SeeClickFix.  The development of the SeeClickFix Plus application channel for Tucson, available on the I-Phone, Blackberry and Android platforms, now allows our citizens to report non-emergency issues with their mobile phones.  Though the project was only recently rolled out to the citizens of Tucson, it is being widely used. My...

SeeClick Fix changed my life.
I have so many stories illustrating how SeeClickFix has changed my life, neighborhood and my city for the better so it’s quite hard to choose just one. But, I choose a simple but powerful example: neighborhood lighting and safety. Our wonderful neighborhood, Wooster Square, sits right on the edge of downtown. Many neighbors do not have cars and walk and bike to work and play. Many choose...
